Clomid works by acting on diverse nerve endings in the human body that regulate hormone production and secretion. Particularly, Clomid works by increasing the amount of three hormones involved in the ovulation process, such as:
- gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
- luteinizing hormone (LH)
- follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
The medication makes the body believe that it has lower levels of estrogen. As a result, the brain begins to release raised levels of GnRH, which, in turn, results in the secretion of FSH and LH. The hormones then bring on the ovaries to start to mature more follicles.
Clomid is administered orally on specific days of the menstrual cycle.
Mostly, Clomid adverse side effects are moderate and not particularly troublesome. Still, at high dosages females may experience mood swings, nausea and vomiting, breast tenderness, splitting headaches, fatigue.
Generally, Clomid is a very effective drug for most patients suffering from ovulatory dysfunction. In fact, 70% - 90% of patients taking Clomid start to ovulate within the first three cycles. Besides, 40% of couples get pregnant during the first three menstrual cycles. |
