| In the new millennium the laptop has become number 1 device extensively used by students, businessmen, tourists etc. It is portable and can be taken aboard an aircraft to view films or send/receive messages from co-workers or business partners. The production of laptop batteries has been updated and upgraded since then. Lead acid based batteries were substituted by lighter nickel cadmium batteries (NiCd). Yet, these batteries were not used much, as there were developed nickel metal hydride batteries (differently called NiMH). They lasted much longer and were lighter. Their drawback was the so-called memory defect they had. If not discharged to the fullest, the battery remembered it and its output was lower.
When lithium ion batteries (LiON) appeared on the IT market, customers saw a great improvement in laptop batteries manufacture. These batteries are much lighter if compared to other batteries and have not got any memory defect. They are deployed in technically advanced laptops.
Though LiON batteries run for several hours non-stop, they require to be re-charged. As more and more people get laptops every year, the demand for durable batteries is rapidly raising. There will definitely be improvements until laptop batteries that do not require to be re-charged are invented. Regardless of the purpose you use a portable pc for, you know that you need a battery with a longer life. You need to know that you can rely on the battery when you need your laptop most of all. |
